Safari Overview

Explore bits of Congo safaris in your 2-day Congo gorilla trekking tour, which starts and ends in Kigali. The trip takes you to Virunga National Park, home to mountain gorillas and other primates. Virunga is part of the greater Virunga massif region that includes Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Virunga National Park

Pick up from your Kigali hotel and, if time allows, enjoy a Kigali city tour visiting notable landmarks including the Kigali Genocide Memorial. Continue your journey through Rwanda’s lush countryside and rolling hills to the Gisenyi border. Complete border crossing formalities and cross into Congo. You will be received by the Virunga team and transferred to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Tracking and Transfer to Kigali

After breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking rules and regulations. Assigned rangers will guide you on a trekking adventure through the forest. Trekking can last from 50 minutes up to 3 hours depending on the gorilla family location. Spend a maximum of 1 hour with the gorillas for observation and photography. After the trek, return to the lodge, check out, and transfer back to Kigali via the Gisenyi border.
