This 3-day Mount Nyiragongo hike tour offers an adventurous climb of one of Africa's most active volcanoes in the Virunga ranges, starting from Kigali, Rwanda, and exploring the stunning views of the lava lake and surrounding landscapes.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

Your guide will pick you up on arrival in Kigali for a city tour, visiting Gisozi Genocide Memorial Site and Kimironko local market for crafts and fruits. After lunch, transfer to Lake Kivu in Gisenyi, Rwanda, arriving early evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Accommodation: Paradise Malahide, Mikeno Lodge, or Bukima Camp

Day 2: Transfer to DR Congo for Nyiragongo Hiking

After breakfast, transfer to the Goma border and complete customs clearance. Drive to Kibatsi village, the hike’s starting point, for a briefing. Begin your hike to the summit at 10 AM, lasting 4–6 hours depending on fitness levels. Enjoy the night view of the lava lake and take photographs. Dinner and overnight near the summit.

Day 3: Descend to Nyiragongo and Transfer Back to Kigali

After breakfast, descend from the summit to the park base with views of Lake Kivu and Goma town. Cross back to Rwanda and transfer to Kigali, arriving early evening for hotel check-in or airport transfer for your departure flight. This marks the end of the tour.
