Enjoy an incredible 5-day Rwanda Gorilla and Wildlife Safari starting and ending in Kigali. Begin with a Kigali city tour, then transfer to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri for gorilla trekking and a cultural visit to Iby’iwacu Cultural Center. Later, continue to Akagera National Park, Rwanda’s largest park, home to the Big Five and a variety of wildlife species.

This safari combines Rwanda’s iconic primate experiences, immersive cultural interactions, and thrilling wildlife encounters with scenic landscapes, boat cruises, and game drives.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Kigali City Tour & Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Pick up from your hotel in Kigali and embark on a city tour, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial and local craft shops. Afterward, drive approximately 2.5 hours to Volcanoes National Park in Ruhengeri. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Iby’iwacu Cultural Experience

After breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla trekking. Trek into the forest to find your assigned gorilla family (50 minutes to 3 hours). Spend up to 1 hour observing and photographing the gorillas. Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, visit Iby’iwacu Cultural Village for an immersive Rwandan cultural experience, learning traditional dances, food preparation, house construction, and more.

Day 3: Transfer to Akagera National Park

After breakfast, check out and drive approximately 5 hours to Akagera National Park. Check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Morning Game Drive & Lake Ihema Boat Cruise

Begin the day with a morning game drive in Akagera National Park. Expect to see zebras, topis, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, lions, hyenas, hippos, and other wildlife. Return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation. In the afternoon, take a scenic boat cruise on Lake Ihema, viewing crocodiles, hippos, birds, and other wildlife. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Optional Morning Game Drive & Transfer Back to Kigali

Optionally, enjoy a morning game drive to maximize wildlife sightings. Afterward, check out and drive back to Kigali, arriving in time for your departure flight.
